The International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas, Regional Office for Central Asia and the Caucasus (ICARDA-CAC) on January 14, 2014 signed an agreement with Khorezm Rural Advisory Support Service (KRASS), to undertake activities in relation to implementing work on accurate mapping of the marginal lands in the irrigated areas in the Aral Sea Action Site of Dryland Systems CRP (Activity title “Improving the productive use of marginal lands in mixed farming and pastoral systems”).

Within the frame of UN Joint Program for “SUSTAINING LIVELIHOODS AFFECTED BY THE ARAL SEA DISASTER”, under the direct supervision of UNESCO Head (Tashkent Representative office) NGO KRASS in close collaboration with the Urgench State University named after Al-Khorezmi, conducted seminars on April 1-3, 2014 as following: “Training of agricultural consultants, farmers and agricultural specialists in resource-saving innovative technologies for sustainable development of southern Karakalpakstan”. 88 specialsits in agriculture, farmers and agroconsultants from 3 disctricts of Karakalpakstan took part in the trainings (Beruni, Turtkul, Ellikala). The presentation sessions were focused on concepts for sustainable agricultural development in the region through efficient resource use and application of improved technologies, agricultural practices and innovations.

Agreement on cooperation is signed with THE INTERNATIONAL CENTER FOR AGRICULTURAL RESEARCH IN THE DRY AREAS (ICARDA) on implementation of research on MANAGING IRRIGATION-DRAINAGE SYSTEMS TO SUSTAINABLY ENHANCE PRODUCTIVITY IN FERGANA VALLEY, CENTRAL ASIA. Historic data on irrigation systems in selected WUAs were collected, analysis of data, a hydro model was developed.

Within the frame of UN Joint Program for “SUSTAINING LIVELIHOODS AFFECTED BY THE ARAL SEA DISASTER”, under the direct supervision of UNESCO Head (Tashkent Representative office) NGO KRASS in close collaboration with the Urgench State University, signed a contract to organize training seminars on the subjects related to Education for Sustainable development and efficient resource use within the period of 7 – 25 October 2014 for middle level government authorities on the regional and local level of Karakalpakstan – including representatives of the ministries such as economy, health, labor, education, agriculture and deputy Hakims (mayors) at the district level of the pilot districts.

Agreement on cooperation is signed with THE INTERNATIONAL CENTER FOR AGRICULTURAL RESEARCH IN THE DRY AREAS (ICARDA) on implementation of research on Evapotranspiration-based Irrigation Scheduling for Winter Wheat and Cotton in the Aral Sea Basin, Uzbekistan. Crop coefficient for winter wheat and cotton was developed. Assessment of alternative solutions, irrigation technologies. Assessment of currently locally practiced irrigation methods and regimes.1 seminar was conducted, 30 participants.

Within the frame of UN Joint Program for “SUSTAINING LIVELIHOODS AFFECTED BY THE ARAL SEA DISASTER” 202 UZB400.2, under the direct supervision of UNESCO Head (Tashkent Representative office) NGO KRASS in close collaboration with the Urgench State University named after Al-Khorezmi conducted seminars on sustainable development and environmental management for for the administrators of the regional departments in Southern part of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, journalists in Nukus, at the President Academy in Tashkent. 3 seminars were conducted, total 105 participants and an information-resource center is established at Urgench State University named after Al-Khorezmi.
